June 24, 2025 at 6:06 pmI knew Dave in a business relationship many years ago. He was a man of strong faith and high integrity. Once our business matters were settled, we always had great sports talks. My sympathy goes out to his family. May you find comfort in your shared memories, and peace in knowing that he is living his best life now.

June 24, 2025 at 10:54 pmA lifelong friend ( I was 9 before I learned he wasn’t my real cousin) David and I shared so many stories and events, they are too much to relate. 70 years of friendship will be remembered fondly.

June 25, 2025 at 9:12 amDearest family, I was saddened to see the death notice in the LSJ. I last saw David having breakfast with his son at Denny’s early this summer. I so enjoyed sharing memories of our days at OSL with him that morning. I remember when he first met Faith and how he was smitten with love for her. David loved God with his whole heart and soul. He lived his life for God and now he has gained the crown of victory which makes me think of this verse: “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Phil 1:21.

June 25, 2025 at 10:18 amDear LaHaine Family,
We are saddened and shocked to hear about the passing of Dave. Rick and Dave go way back. From working at McDonalds as kids, to being in our wedding. Many years of friendship.
May your family treasure your memories and embrace each other.

June 26, 2025 at 5:58 pmI met Dave during my senior year at MSU. We debated how good “Magic” Johnson was one day between classes – so Dave challenged me to go watch him play. I did. Dave was right about Magic being a “Man among Boys” – and Big Dave and I have been close friends ever since. We went to football games, up to the infamous “cabin,” camping together, and a bunch of tailgates. We were already friends when he first met Faith – and wow – did he fall hard for her – ha. We were part of each other’s families too – for us especially David and Christine (Marta).
They moved east to Vernon and we moved west to Kalamazoo – but we still met regularly at MSU for sports, and tailgates and such.
“Big Un” was one of the nicest and truest people that I have ever met. He had a heart of gold and he always put other people first. His faith – and his other Faith – his wife – were the center of his world. After that family is what made him happy. Oh – and the Spartans and the Tigers (duhhhh).
I saw him last Thursday – and tho he didn’t speak – I believe that he heard some or most of what I said (David thought so too). I told a bunch of our old stories and Dave’s classic stories/jokes that I have heard told a hundred times or more – and I kept waiting for Big Dave to sit up and tell me the parts of the story that I messed up or had forgotten altogether. Ya know tho – I never got tired of those stories because he was so happy telling them and they always made me laugh too – a lot.
I always loved ya like a brother – Big Guy – and I always will. Our paths will cross again in the journey ahead – because connected souls always find a way back to each other. God Speed – Big Un. I will surely miss you here on this physical plane – but we will meet again soon – my Brother !!!!
