David Hendrix, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2013, surrounded by his devoted family.
David was born in Lansing on May 18, 1955, to Urwin and the late Margaret Hendrix. In addition to his father, David is survived by his wife and best friend of 34 years, Linda; his sons, David (Jenelle) and Michael; daughter, Jenny; step-daughters, Kim Emerson (Dave) and Allison Mohr (George). He leaves behind his eleven adoring grandchildren Layla, Sonny, and Sullivan Hendrix; Colin, Emily, Gracin, and Kalyn Emerson; Audrey, Morgan, Liliana, and Luca Mohr. He was a caring brother to Debbie Lehmann (Dave), Mark, and Tom Hendrix (Karen). He was preceded in death by his mother and his daughter, Jill.
David graduated from Lansing Catholic Central High School. Professionally, he worked for the State of Michigan Department of Treasury for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed Michigan State University sports, the Detroit Tigers, and traveling. He was an avid runner, reader and golfer. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. David will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kindness, courage, warm sense of humor, and optimistic outlook on life. Though he left us way too soon, we will carry him in our hearts forever.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at St. Gerard Parish, with Fr. John Klein as celebrant. The rite of committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, on Monday, August 12, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.; and 1 hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.
