Cynthia Jean Velez
Lansing, Michigan
Born September 18, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan, daughter of the late Edward and Arlene (Wright) Gibbons passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at age 70.
Survivors include 4 children, Amy Velez, Brian (Darlene) Velez, Julie Velez-McNeely, and Andrew Velez; 4 grandchildren, Thomas, Victoria, Lucas, and Phelen; 7 step-grandchildren, Markeesha, Travis, Terrence, Michael, Lafayette, Handsome, and Ryeshaun; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; brother, Terry Mulder; sister, Susan (Larry) Lucas; brother-in-law, Michael Austin; along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Jose O. Velez, and 2 sisters, Dalene Grams and Elmie Austin.
Cynthia’s family and faith meant everything to her. She was very involved with her children’s lives as well as their schools and cherished each and every grandchild. Cynthia was a foster mother to many and was a longtime active member of South Lansing Christian Church.
The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Thursday, June 7th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018, also at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Frank Weller officiating. Inurnment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Cynthia, to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
