After teaching kindergarten for two years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Cherokee, NC, she had a career in insurance and banking. She was also a volunteer tax preparer in the VITA program for over 15 years.

Claudia loved to sing and over the years was a member of the choir in seven Episcopal churches, most recently St. Michael’s, Lansing and St. Paul’s, Lansing.  She also sang with many community groups including Cantata Singers in Elmira, NY, and, since moving to Lansing, with The Steiner Chorale and with Michigan State University Choral Union.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, the Rev’d W. Richard Hamlin, PhD., and their three treasured adult daughters: Eleanor Claudia Hamlin of Lansing, MI, Margaret Grace Hamlin (Robert Showers) of Montgomery, PA, and Arwyn Elizabeth Hamlin (Fred Almonte) of Clinton, NY.

A Requiem Eucharist to celebrate her life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (218 W. Ottawa St., Lansing) at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 29.  Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery in Clay, NY on October 3, at 11:00 am.

Fr.Rich,Claudia and I have known each other since our college days at Hobart and William Smith. Rich and Claudia never said “No” to anyone and now matter what the situation was they managed to be generous, kind and good with a great sense of humor. This is a great sense of loss to many of us who knew her for such a long time. Fred N.

So sorry. We both were always early for MSU Choral Union rehersal. So we’d just sit and chat till starting time. She was always so upbeat and just made me less stressed for the evening.

Dick, I was so blessed to be able to care for your sweet Claudia. We had the most Amazing conversation and hearing her sing was one of my favorite parts of the day.. She truly had a heart of gold and the voice of an angel and I know they welcomed her wholeheartedly into the angels choir… My thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family.
