Claudia W. Hamlin

Claudia Webb Hamlin died unexpectedly on August 10, 2022, in Lansing, MI.  She was born June 19, 1946, in Cheverly, MD to Lois Neuhaus Webb and Kenneth W. Webb.  She was a graduate of The National Cathedral School for Girls and earned her BA from William Smith College in 1968.

After teaching kindergarten for two years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Cherokee, NC, she had a career in insurance and banking. She was also a volunteer tax preparer in the VITA program for over 15 years.

Claudia loved to sing and over the years was a member of the choir in seven Episcopal churches, most recently St. Michael’s, Lansing and St. Paul’s, Lansing.  She also sang with many community groups including Cantata Singers in Elmira, NY, and, since moving to Lansing, with The Steiner Chorale and with Michigan State University Choral Union.

Always active in her various parishes, she also served the Diocese of Central New York as a Delegate to the 1988 Triennial of Episcopal Church Women and as Chair of the Post-Cursillo Committee.  In the Diocese of Michigan, Claudia was a member of Diocesan Council from 2013–2019 and was the chair of the Mission Budget Committee for several years.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, the Rev’d W. Richard Hamlin, PhD., and their three treasured adult daughters: Eleanor Claudia Hamlin of Lansing, MI, Margaret Grace Hamlin (Robert Showers) of Montgomery, PA, and Arwyn Elizabeth Hamlin (Fred Almonte) of Clinton, NY.

A Requiem Eucharist to celebrate her life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (218 W. Ottawa St., Lansing) at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 29.  Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery in Clay, NY on October 3, at 11:00 am.
