Clair L. Swain

 Age 87, passed away August 25, 2013. He was born December 3, 1925, in Ellsworth, MI, to Harry and Eva Swain.Clair graduated from Ellsworth High School, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. He owned a Sunoco gas station before working at General Motors for 25 years, retiring in 1982. In 1943, he worked in a conservation camp in Roscommon. Clair was a member of the American Legion, former member and former president of the South Lansing Kiwanis Club, and a square dance club.

Surviving are: his wife, Ruth Benninger; children, Ruth Ann (Robert) McKean, Steven Swain (Tom Lovaas) and David (Kathy) Swain; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Audrey Kaiser. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Margaret Kohlmeyer and Kathlyn Benninger; daugher, Nancy Lou Jenks; and several siblings.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with interment to follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Clair L. Swain.
