Christine Renee Hibbs Waite

1949-2023

Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Admit impediments. Love is not love

Which alters when it alteration finds,

Or bends with the remover to remove:

O no! It is an ever-fixed mark

That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

It is the star to every wandering bark,

Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.

Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks

Within his bending sickle’s compass come;

Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,

But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,

I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare

This was Chris’s favorite Shakespearean sonnet. We use words every day, and some people can add a richness and depth to those words. That was Chris; she had a love of books and the written word. It directed her career and was a lifelong influence in her personal life.

The memories of Chris’s life will be kept by her son Kip (Jessica), granddaughter Ripley, partner Jeff, brothers Steve (Katherine), Gary (Martha), Jeff (Karen), niece Andrea, and nephews Christopher, McKee, Mark, and Ciardan.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 1-3 p.m.

We think of Chris everyday. The memories of our visit last September bring us a lot of joy and comfort. She and her granddaughter were two peas in a pod, and it was beautiful to watch them play. We are going to tell our daughter all about her grandma, and we hope to honor her by passing along a love of the written word.

Love always,
Kip, Jess, Ripley

We had not met Christine, but share in the grief with our grandson in law, kip. Tha Psalmist writes: those who walk uprightly enter into Peace, they find rest as they lie in death….. May Christine rest in Peace..

Jeff although I only met Chris once I know she made you very happy. I hope that she rests in peace and that you can rest knowing she is not suffering any longer. I love you with all my heart.

I only met Chris twice but she and Jeff stayed at my house while traveling through Vegas. Chris absolutely hated street performers on Fremont! It was nice spending time with them but too short. But then life is fleeting and too short. I congratulate Chris on a life well lived, a great son, a wonderful granddaughter. Rest in peace!

Chris, you were a good friend & a wonderful boon to my family. The effect you had on my dad was amazing. Your wit & intelligence was on the mark & keen. It is comforting that though you are gone, you will be with us always.
