Charlie J. "Charlie" Poquette

After a three-year battle with cancer Charlie, age 81, left us to be with his daughter Suzie on Friday, February 8, 2013.

Born September 27th 1931 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Benedict and Marion (Barth) Poquette.  Charlie graduated from Ann Arbor High in 1949.  After graduating he served four years in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954.

Charlie married Nancy “Nan” Gibson on May 24th 1952.  The couple along with Nan’s father Walter Gibson were the original founders of Gibson’s Bookstore in East Lansing, Michigan in 1955.

After retirement Charlie enjoyed golfing, gardening and traveling with his wife Nan.  Spending time with family meant everything to him.  He thoroughly adored all of his children and grandchildren and rarely missed any event in which they were involved.  From basketball, rugby, volleyball, lacrosse, football, baseball, softball, tennis to robotics tournaments and horse shows.  He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.

Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter Suzanne “Suzie” (Poquette) Buche in 2005.  He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy “Nan” (Gibson) Poquette; children, Ben (Nora), David (Amy), Pam (Ross), Nanette (Dave); son-in-law, Matt Buche; grandchildren, Nicole (Tim), Chelsea (Sean) and Luke, Christopher and Charlie, Danielle and Bridger, Tyler, Corey and Suzie; and great-grandchildren, Kyra and Liam, Kayden.

Charlie’s passion for people and family will be celebrated on Friday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI 48933. Family will be greeting friends beginning at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Sparrow Hospice Services or charity of your choice.

Condolences to the Poquette family. Please be assured of God’s promise that one day we will see our loved ones again happy and healthy, John 5:28, 29 says, “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” I pray this promise along with loving memories of Charlie fill your heart with comfort and peace.

I will always remember Charlie as this great, gentle giant with an equally giant-sized grin on his face.

My most sincere condolences during this time of grief for your family.
