Born June 22, 1935, Charles Phillip Sweet, beloved husband of Sharon Lee Sweet died peacefully at home the morning of January 6, 2016. They were happily married for 60 years. Chuck graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1954 and worked for the State of Michigan, Department of Transportation, retiring in 1995 after 40 years of service.
He was a remarkable man, intelligent, loving and caring. His interest in cars and racing began when he was 12 and continued throughout his life as mechanic, builder, owner, and driver. During retirement he enjoyed his street rod as well as mechanics of all kinds which included restoring antique outboard motors, cash registers and antique collectibles. He loved spending time with family at the Lake Leelanau cottage.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Schuster Sweet. Chuck was a devoted family man, father to Michelle (Scott) Wentzel and Kallard (Amy) Sweet. He was a loving grandfather to his dear grandchildren Emily (Hector), Zachary (Stacy), Elizabeth, Lindsay and Katelyn and great-grandchildren Scott, Lucy, and Parker. He is also survived by his sister Margaret (Jim) Campbell of Marietta, Georgia.
