Celia P. Snow

Celia, age 94, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away March 19, 2018. She was born May 1, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Robert and Sadie Pollard. Brother Bill arrived five years later which delighted Celia. Together they had many adventures growing up and remained close for their remaining years. Celia graduated from Ferndale High School and attended Mary Washington College in Virginia.

In the summer of 1939, at age 16, Celia met Conley Snow in Bristol, Tennessee. Celia stated she thought Conley was the most exciting man she ever met and she felt that way for the rest of her life. His smile made her heart go “pitty-pat”. Celia and Conley were married on October 7, 1943 during World War II. They had 71 years of a blissful marriage. Married life included being the wife of an aviator pilot during the war and becoming a homemaker and raising three children. Celia was happy being at home and being a mom, but she always had a adventurous spirit. When Conley retired they moved to Colorado to be in the land of blue skies, sunshine and skiing, where they remained for 29 years. Celia loved skiing, hiking and especially camping. Her love of the out of doors and nature was evident to anyone who knew her. Her children and grandchildren benefited from her passion. Besides outdoor activities Celia enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafts, reading and card playing. Whether playing bridge with friends or Russian Bank, Uno or Skip Bo with the family, Celia was a delightful competitor. In her later years Celia continued to be an avid reader, played cards and enjoyed a glass of wine in front of a fire. Celia liked to have fun and channeled her activities in that direction wherever she was.

Celia treasured her family more than anything else. Her children and grandchildren have many beautiful memories and wonderful stories that will forever remain in their hearts. Her great grandchildren will learn about their great grandmother through those memories. Celia also touched the lives of so many people which is evident by the numerous friends she had during her life. She and Conley had the gift of knowing how to be a sincere friend.

Celia’s church life was always present wherever she lived. Her current church home, Mayflower Congregational Church in Lansing was a welcoming and embracing family to both Conley and Celia. Our family appreciates the love and compassion given to our parents.

Celia’s family will be forever grateful to the staff at Grand Haven Living Center in Lansing for the care they provided for Celia. The family also appreciates the services provided by Heartland Hospice during this past year, which enhanced Celia’s journey in life.

Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Conley Snow; her brother, Robert William Pollard and her niece, Shannon Pollard Easter. It broke her heart to lose her husband, brother and niece within one and half years. Surviving are: 3 children, Conley Robert (Margaret) Snow, Beverly (Charles) Phillips, and David William Snow; 5 grandchildren, Sean (Summer) Snow, Justin (Kristen) Phillips, Kevin (Melissa) Phillips, Jennifer (Keith) Bason, and Jamie (Jonathan) Bomba; 5 great-grandchildren, Colin Phillips, Hallie Phillips, Miles Phillips, Griffin Phillips, and Paige Snow.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Mayflower Congregational Church, 2901 W. Mt. Hope Ave., Lansing, Michigan 48911. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church.
