Caroljean “CJ” Haussman Stanford

Flint, Michigan

Caroljean “CJ” Stanford, prominent Flint storyteller, passed away on January 19, 2024, with two friends, Bonnie and John by her side.  CJ was born on March 22, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan, to Marian and Carl Haussman, both deceased.  She is survived by one sister, Suzanne (Michael) Lutz of Ada, Michigan, and cousins Cheryl Haussman of Connecticut, Ted Haussman of Pennsylvania, and Melissa Haussman of Florida.  She graduated from Grand Ledge High School, attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and graduated from Drake University.  CJ taught for many years in the Grand Blanc School District and after retirement taught at the Stanley School at Crossroads Village in Flint.  In her words this was her “absolute dream job.”  When storytelling CJ went by the name “The Gingerbread Lady” and loved and collected all things related to Gingerbread Boys.  She was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the women’s choir.  She belonged to a local antique club and the Burton Senior Center both of which she really enjoyed.  She also enjoyed hiking and traveled to many states in her quest to hike all 50.

A private burial has already taken place.

Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

We were high school friends and lost track of one another. I am saddened at the news of her passing.

I met CJ at Court Street United Methodist Church in Flint Michigan. She joined the Senior Choir where we sang for seniors at assisted living facilities. She enjoyed singing and the fellowship with our group. She will be missed. Sing with the Angels CJ. James Kindlinger
