April 8, 1979 – July 2, 2025

Carmon Joy Crawford, 46, of Mason, Michigan, passed away on July 2, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Her death came as a sudden and heartbreaking shock, the result of an aggressive blood infection that took her life far too quickly.

Carmon was born in Lansing, Michigan, and graduated from Lansing Christian High School before earning her degree from Michigan State University. She spent her life pouring into others with the love of Jesus.

A devoted wife and mother, Carmon was married to Jason Crawford, and together they have three children: Madeline (19), Jack (17), and Cole (15).
She was their constant encourager, with wisdom and strength.

Carmon gave generously of herself in the Lansing community, volunteering faithfully with Greater Lansing Youth for Christ, Trinity Church, and Lansing Christian School.
Whether leading, listening, or simply showing up when someone needed her—Carmon’s presence made people feel seen, loved, and safe.

She is survived by her husband, their children, her brothers; and her mother, Cathy Bytwerk. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Bytwerk.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd. in Lansing on Friday, July 11, from 6:00pm–8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life service will follow at noon on July 12 at Trinity Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greater Lansing Youth for Christ or Lansing Christian School—two communities Carmon loved and supported deeply.

“We do not grieve as those without hope…” – 1 Thessalonians 4:13

The Damesworth family loves the Crawford’s and Carmon who while coaching basketball was a passion her Love for Jesus was the most evident. She spoke truth to my kids often and was a great friend to Shannon and the hours and hours of conversations we’ve had. She will be missed tremendously but we rest in the hope that she is with our Heavenly Father. We will see her again. Much Love from the Damesworth’s, Kevin, Shannon, Cameron, Ethan and Kylie.

The first time I heard Carmon sing, was at Trinity Church. “This is the air I breathe” accompanied by her mom, playing piano. Her voice was so beautiful, it brought a tear to my eye. Getting to know Carmon over the years was truly a gift. A hole has been ripped in the heart of this community. Our love for the Crawford and Bytwerk families is deep. We mourn with you.

Carmon Joy- she certainly lived up to her middle name! Her brother Corey was a member of my J.V. Boys basketball team. We were having a team party at Dennis and Cathy’s house. As I entered the house, an 11 year old Carmon was descending the stairs. What I saw was a beautiful, effervescent, radiant young girl- that was my introduction to Carmon! I would have the privilege of having Carmon as a student in my middle school science class. I vividly remember seeing Carmon spinning around on a science lab stool- laughing and smiling with JOY! Many years later, I would be Madeline, Jack, and Cole’s science teacher at Lansing Christian School. Jason and Carmon’s children were each a blessing to me. Two years ago, I was walking to my car at Lansing Christian School, when I heard, ” Mr. D.” – It was Carmon. Once again, Carmon blessed me with words of love and gave me a big hug! Carmon is an expression of God’s Love, JOY, and Peace. God Bless, Mr.D.
