Carl Lamont Laing

Lansing, Michigan.

Born May 28, 1941 in Lansing, Michigan son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Pohly) Laing passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the age of 82.

Carl was a proud graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, class of 1959.  Following high school, he joined and served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman aboard the U.S.S. Surviving are his three children, David (Kirsten) Laing, Jonathan (Barbara) Laing, and Michelle Laing; five grandchildren, Jordan Laing, Nathan Laing, Liberty Reiner, AJ Reiner, and Caden Laing.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Paulette Laing in 2021.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Rd. in DeWitt.  Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday for 1 hour prior to the funeral service.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in memory of Carl, to Redeemer’s Camp Scholarship Fund.

Carl, you will be missed so much. Your smile lit up a room. You always were pleasant and never would show anger to me. I love you brother -in -law with all my heart. Rest in peace and hug my sisters and Mama and Daddy. Tell Charlie hello for me and tickle his tummy. I loved him and Dorothy so much. God bless you always ! Deborah Becker and Gary

Jon,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing a father is very painful but it helps to remember the good times and the lessons he taught you.

I would like to offer my condolences for Carl’s family and friends. I worked with Carl at St.Lawrence hospital in the engineering department. He was a very kind person with a lot of knowledge and would help anyone when needed. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met, and gave me books on george Washington, the revolutionary War and other books on history,as he knew I liked historical reading. I am so glad I got to know Carl. He was a tender soul. Rest in peace!

Carl introduced himself to me in a hallway of St Lawrence Hospital when I was a new employee in 1988. I was struggling to find my way through the hospital corridors & he noticed my angst. Little did either of us know that our lives would interchange for years to come. He worked there keeping every aspect of the hospital building running smoothly – including my department…as we helped each other troubleshoot issues. Along the way it came up that we were both church-going Christians & a new level of friendship formed. No one could ask for a better friend. I will miss his (& Paulette’s) hugs but rejoice with both of them knowing they have reached their home with God.
May God bless & keep all of Carl’s family during this time. And may you always cherish & PURSUE the love for God that he & Paulette taught by words & example. They were precious people!

i worked with Carl at St. Lawrence Hospital What a kind man. He was so funny as well, joking by word or even a little song. He was so thoughtful when my Dad died at a fairly young age.May Carl rest in peace.

David, Jonathon, Michelle and the whole immediate and extended family, l send my loving thoughts and prayers during this time of your loss of Carl. I knew Carl and Paulette quite well. Also, if my memory is correct, my Dad and I stayed at Charlie and Dorothy’s home one time when we were attending Annual Conference in Lansing.

We used to renew our friendship when we would both attend the Pohly Reunion many years ago now. My wife and I visited Carl and Paulette on one occasion is their home. I remember Carl and Paulette with fondness and the qualities of Carl listed by others in their comments ring true for me too.

Sorry I can’t come to the Memorial Service. I am 91 and arthritis and some pulmonary fibrosis prohibit it. But I will be thinking you tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Grace and Peace to the entire family.
