Betty Lou Yunker

Lansing, Michigan.

Born February 26, 1935 in Lansing, MI daughter of the late Horace and Evelyn Leisure passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at age 86.

Betty is survived by three sons, Dennis Yunker, Darrell Yunker, and Darwin Yunker; ten grandchildren, Sean, Lauren, Devin, Sean, Dillon, Danielle, Morgan, Matthew, Darla, and Thomas; five great-grandchildren (she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of 2 more); sister, Madelyn Gee along with several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and dear friends Suzie Cullimore and Sandy Allen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Yunker; two brothers, Charles and Donald Leisure and two sisters, Virginia Smith and Sue Bashore.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Lansing Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  She had worked as a Dental Hygenist, as an operator for Bell Telephone, as a church janitor, and was also the owner/operator of Cakes By Betty – specializing in wedding cakes.  Betty loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed spending time at her cottage in Houghton Lake, especially fishing and boating, was a talented painter, an animal lover, an excellent cook, enjoyed attending both the Lansing Lugnut and Detroit Tiger games, listening to Johnny Cash as well as watching movies and The Golden Girls.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Betty, to the Ingham County Animal Shelter, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Smile Train.
