Betty A. “Gigi” Goodrich

Betty GoodrichPassed away November 19, 2022, after a well-fought battle with cancer. She was born July 30, 1937, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, to Jesse and Myrtle Wright. She graduated from Eaton Rapids High School and married Gordon “Ralph” Goodrich, the son of the late Gordon and Esther Goodrich, in 1955.

Betty and Ralph started in the service station business in 1963 and have owned and operated All Auto Service in Lansing since 1981. Working right up to a few weeks prior to her death, she touched many lives and will be truly missed by her loyal customers as well as her current and previous employees. She enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling them with a favorite meal or fresh-made cookies on the weekend. The family had many annual traditions including a trip to the Christmas tree farm to cut a fresh tree, making pies, cinnamon rolls, ground bologna and throwing peeps at the Easter dinner table (this was not her favorite tradition). She loved sitting on the back porch birdwatching while the river rippled by and enjoying a Gin & Tonic with a twist of lime. She was a season ticketholder for the MSU Spartans Football for over 10 years, enjoying these times with many friends and family members. For many years, she spent her summer weekends boating at Torch Lake and Lake Charlevoix surrounded by family and fellow boating friends. She loved being ON the water but never IN the water.

She was a treasured part of the Holt Lions Club for decades where she used her certification as a Certified Preschool Vision Tech by the State of Michigan as a volunteer in the Lions Club-sponsored program to screen preschool children. Ralph and Betty were both honored by the Lions Club with the Melvin Jones award.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Ralph; her brother-in-law James Reid; son-in-law Kirk Osborn; and her great-grandson Owen Osborn. She is survived by her children Ralph (Peg) Goodrich, Lenore Osborn, Bonnie (Randy) Kelly, and Charles Goodrich; grandchildren Kelly (Adam), Ryan (Kate), Jessica (Kevin), Jason, Dustin (Brittany), Derek (Haley), Brendan (Megan), and Lindsay (Chase); great- grandchildren Abby, Tyler, Kelsy, Kortney, Colin, Charlotte and Brexley; sisters Sue Reid, Mary (Steve) Romankewiz; brother Robert Wright; brother-in-law Stuart (Kathleen) Goodrich; sister-in-law Ellen (George) Morin; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 P.M. on January 14, 2023, at Buddies in Holt, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club Leader Dog Program or Hospice of Lansing in memory of Betty Goodrich.

Chuck I’m sad to hear about your mom passing. I remember her saying she’d been diagnosed with cancer but i hadn’t followed up with her. I feel bad for that. I enjoyed our short trips to and from the station when you were servicing our vehicles. She was a faithful worker, mother and grandmother. I’m numb. The station will always be where her heart was-family.

Betty was so sweet, I met her shortly after moving to Lansing from Missouri and I was sent to All Auto for car repairs, She was so easy to talk to and I shared many conversations with her on our rides when she would take me home, work or pick me up when my car was being repaired. I’m so saddened by the loss of your mother Chuck, may God comfort you during this time of sorrow.

Betty was the best. I’ll never forget her scolding me into replacing my wife’s tires for safety. Of course she was correct to do so. Made me feel like one of the family, as all of you have.
30 years of her smiling face asking so kindly about me and my family. Really, just the best. I am very sorry for your loss.

Hello Chuck,

I am so sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. She was such a delight to travel with back and forth from your business to Lansing Christian School. I think we solved many of the world’s problems as we talked along the way:) I pray that you and your family will enjoy remembering her this Christmas and that you will also experience the peace that only God gives when a loved one leaves this earth.

Blessings to your whole family.

Lenore and family, your mom was a loving spirit full of light and life. A fond memory of your mom was when she came into our second grade class and showed us how to make maple syrup from sap in the spring. That was 58 years ago, yet I remember it like yesterday. Her smile was hard to forget. Lean on your family and friends, and know that your mother’s love touched a whole community. May you feel God’s love surround you at this very difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss, Lenore, Chuck, family, and friends. Betty Goodrich lived down the road when I stayed at the Augensteins. She was a kind, thoughtful woman. I never knew Ralph but I know he was wonderful too. I met up with Lenore when I taught school at Wilcox.
Later I got gas at the station. There I met up with
Betty and Chuck again . She was working like always so in charge of what she was doing. I was away when she passed. Definitely a strong and proud woman. I will miss her. What a wonderful family!
