I met Betty two years ago on a Wednesday, after the morning prayer group ended, she came by to meet the new church secretary (me). She came by the office almost every Wednesday, as long as her health allowed, and talked about life and art. She was an amazing person, I’m glad she was my friend.
A little over a year ago, she gave me a piece of art titled “The Face of Forgiveness”, a picture of Jesus that she created when she was in her 20’s. I will always treasure it! My deepest condolences to her friends and family. Her presence will be deeply missed, especially on Wednesday’s here at Griswold Street Baptist Church.

We met Betty when she and Helen came in to our store to make copies for the wonderful booklets that she made. It was always a pleasure talking with her and listening to the stories she had to tell about the current book she was working on. We got to know her family through these chats. She would share pictures of the beautiful artwork that she and her siblings had created. Beautiful!! I’m sure that she is walking with Jesus and sharing music, stories and scripture. Such a wonderful lady! We are all sending prayers for Betty’s family and friends, especially Helen that all find peace in knowing that she is in heaven with our Lord and Savior.

I was saddened to hear about Betty’s passing.  What an incredible woman she was!  I got to know Betty in the early ’90’s when she took the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement class.  Along with Helen Carr, the three of us worked closely together to coordinate this class for many years in Lansing and then to other parts of Michigan. Betty was such a vital part of making this happen.  I’ve missed Betty for more than 20 years since my family and I moved to Taiwan.  I’m looking forward to reuniting with her in heaven!  In the meantime, I’ll continue to be inspired by the memory of her. My prayers are with her family and her lifelong friend, Helen Carr.

I first met Betty back in 1969 at Gospel Recordings/Global Recordings Network. I came to do a three-month summer programme with Gospel Recordings. The mission sent a group of us young people, along with Betty, to URBANA. Betty found out that it was my birthday and she went out and bought me a cake. Because my birthday fell just before New Year’s day…my family were all busy with the New Year’s celebration…too busy to remember my birthday. So growing up…I don’t remember celebrating my birthday…but dear Betty did…she bought me my first birthday cake!!
