Beatrice M. Rabin
Age 94, of Okemos, MI, passed away at home surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren on January 26, 2017. She was born September 30, 1922, in Franklin, New Hampshire. After graduating high school in 1940, she received her nursing degree in 1944 from New Hampshire State Hospital. There she met her future husband Albert Rabin. They married in 1949 and moved to Okemos, Michigan. She received her B.S and M.S. from Michigan State University and she would later work on cancer research at MSU until the mid 1970’s. At MSU, she and Al were fortunate to have a strong circle of friends.
Bea loved to travel the world with her family. She and Al went to various countries together throughout their 61 years of marriage.
Surviving are her daughter, Sarah Rabin of Watertown, Wisconsin, and three grandchildren, Rachel, Jake, and David Butts, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her parents, and four brothers and one sister.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, with Rabbi Amy Bigman of Congregation Shaarey Zedek officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Congregation Shaarey Zedek, 1924 Coolidge Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823.

My sincere condolences.
Bea was a friend, colleague and life advisor to me. Bea, Imogen, Delia, Kay and I were for decades the “swim team locker room” friends at the then, Women’s IM. The swimming was important, but the mentoring, intellectual stimulation, social commentary and political awareness surrounding me—the youngest member of the group–was priceless. Bea and the New Yorker kept me updated. I last saw Bea over a year ago. I remain forever grateful that she was in my life. My favorite story was of her meeting Albert Einstein. I hope he remembered that meeting…..
