Barbara J. Townsend

Age 92, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, went to her heavenly home January 7, 2019.  She was born September 23, 1926, in Ashley, Michigan.  Barbara graduated from Dansville Agricultural School in 1944.  In 1947, she married the love of her life, Lyle C. Townsend.  Barbara was an active member of South Baptist Church for over 60 years, and was a homemaker, seamstress, deaconess, and a volunteer for the Delta Township Elections and at Sparrow Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011; daughter, Mary Jo Townsend; brother, Jack Lockwood and brother-in-law, Versil Baese.  Surviving are:  her daughter, Lou Ann (Mark) Sellers; son/grandson, Joseph Townsend; siblings, Shirley Baese, Lowell (Donna) Lockwood, Larry (Wanda) Lockwood, and Joy Goodman; sister-in-law, Carolyn Lockwood; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019, at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Drive, Lansing.  Her family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church, or to Eaton Community Palliative Care in memory of Barbara Townsend.
