Beverly M. Sweet

Dearly loved mother and wife, Beverly M. Sweet, entered into heaven on April 11, 2014 at the age of 83. She was currently of East Lansing, MI.

Beverly earned both an undergraduate and master’s degree from Michigan State University and was a reading specialist for the Lansing School District for many years.  She was a life long standing member of the Lansing community and member of Emanuel First Lutheran Church:  baptized on December 14, 1930 at Emanuel First Lutheran Church, confirmed on June 3, 1945 at Emanuel First Lutheran Church, graduated Lansing Eastern High School in January 1949 and married Douglas Sweet on June 5, 1955 at Emanuel First Lutheran Church.  She served on many committees at Emanuel First Lutheran to include Missionary Society, the Altar Guild and keeping the outdoor church flowers watered in the summer.  She was a member of the East Lansing Woman’s Club, a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), a member of the Mayflower Society and on the Board of Directors for Marsh Pointe in Haslett, MI (apartments for seniors 55 and older).

Beverly was a teacher at heart and loved all.  She had many favorite sayings but one that depicts her best is:  “You catch more Flies with Honey than Vinegar.”  Bev lived and died a sweet woman.

Beverly and her husband of 57 years, Douglas (now deceased), are the parents of five children and fourteen grandchildren.  Bev’s children are:  Matthew (deceased, survived by his wife, Sue, children:  Zachary, Natalie and Brittany); David (wife Emmalee, children:  Joseph, Lydia, Madalyn and Noah); Jonathan (son, Max); Elizabeth (children:  Paige and Maggie); Jason (wife Lisa, children:  Haley, Morgan, Zoe and Benjamin).

There will be a viewing from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, April 24th at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.  On Friday, April 25th at Emanuel First Lutheran Church in Lansing there will be a viewing from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, funeral service 11:00 am, procession to Evergreen Cemetery at 2:00 pm, committal at 2:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church’s Debt Retirement Fund (Emanuel First Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Ave., Lansing, MI 48906).

Sorry to hear of Beverly’s passing was hoping to see her next June when the class of Eastern Hi 1949 will meet for the 65 class reunion.

My thoughts & prayers go out to her family.
