Barbara Lynn (Mullins) Salt

Barbara Lynn (Mullins) Salt, age 62, of Holt, MI, passed away March 3, 2023, at her home.

Barbara was born in Lansing, MI, on October 5, 1960, the daughter of Sharon and Marvin Mullins.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Sharon Mullins of Traverse City, MI; brother, Timothy (Janice) Mullins of Holt, MI; sister, Suzanne Mullins of Lansing, MI; son, Cameron (Amy) Salt of Holt, MI; nieces, Melanie (Brian) Bartley of Hartland, MI and Elizabeth (Adam) Mullins of Kalamazoo, MI; and her dearest partner, Jeff Bement of Holt, MI.

Throughout Barbara’s life she has been a beacon of light in the hardest of times. In 2004, her daughter, Alysha Lynn Salt, passed away. In the wake of this loss, Barbara used her natural strength of spirit and determination to hold her family together. She deeply loved the ones in her life and was sure to put them before herself.

Barbara retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan after a long and fulfilling career with the company.  During her career she made many friends, many of whom became like members of her family. She gained great satisfaction from treating customers with the love and respect that she gave to everyone.

In recent years Barbara enjoyed working to build a cabin in Mesick, MI, with her partner Jeff Bement. The two of them spent many lovely days at their property. She was also able to return to her favorite vacation destination, Anna Maria Island, FL. She had a long history of visiting the island with her family. For Barbara, Anna Maria Island was heaven on earth, where she built many wonderful memories.

A memorial will be held for close family at the family cottage in late spring. It will be a celebration of her life and the joy and laughter she brought to so many. She will be dearly missed by family, friends, and those who knew her.

Barb and I worked together for 35 years. The best of those days were spent in the MSU Dedicated Unit. We ended up sharing a deep sadness that only grieving moms can know. I can’t help but think of the joyous reunion she’s having with Alysha but also sad for her son having to endure another close loss. Cameron, you have my thoughts and best wishes as you navigate this loss. Your mom talked VERY highly of you. Barb, you’ll be missed.

Barb was a dear friend and a beautiful soul. We lost track of each other after we retired but I thought of her fondly and often. I picture her now with her beautiful Alysha who she missed so much. Rest in heaven Barb and we will see each other again.

I can’t even express the sadness in my heart for the loss of Barb. She was a bright light in our workplace, a very dedicated and intelligent woman. She was a great gal. Cam I know she loved you and Alysha with all her heart. I hope you remember the happy times and find peace while doing so. Hugs and love to you. Please pass a hug on to your wonderful grandma from CJ.

My dear friend, Barb!! We worked together for many years at BCBSM, so kind, funny, helpful, you would bring cold toast to work for breakfast…we would laugh together!! I speak of you often to my victim advocate group, when we had to tell you of Alysha death. So heart wrenching to see your family’s grief.
There is not much we can do or say now-please Cameron know that our hearts are with you and your grave loss. Prayers for you
