Audrey Lou Skidmore

Sedona, AZ

Audrey Skidmore was born in Lansing, Michigan, the youngest child of Arthur and Esther Gaus on June 12, 1932. At 17 she met the love of her life, Joseph Skidmore, who she married in one of Bethlehem Lutheran Church’s first weddings in 1954 and stayed by her side for 74 years.

They moved to Germany while Joe served in the army then settled in Lansing until they built their dream home in Eagle in 1972. They returned to Lansing after retirement. Audrey worked as a secretary for the Lansing School District and later retired from the Grand Ledge School District as secretary to the Director of Special Education. Audrey’s hobbies included sewing, cooking, and reading. She liked to bake cookies and pies. She also loved to sing and sang soprano in her church choir for years. She kept a meticulously clean house. She was a careful and stylish dresser. She and Joe hosted a family summer vacations in Elk Rapids for thirty years and enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren in Michigan, California, and Washington.

Audrey always had good friends and played cards monthly with her high school chums for decades and then later with her sisters. She found comfort in her faith and volunteered extensively for her church. Mom taught us the value of hard work, honesty, tolerance, a home cooked meal, and a clean home.

She is survived by her husband Joseph Skidmore, her children Loree Skidmore (Scott Kinberger), Tam Skidmore (George Kuttner), Joe Skidmore (Marsee Skidmore), and grandchildren Charlotte Kinberger, Eliot Skidmore Kuttner, and Willa Skidmore Kuttner.

Memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lansing July 30, 2024 at 11 am.
