Audrey Johnson was born June 29, 1924, in Freeport, Illinois, and passed away peacefully on June 29, 2011, at her home in Lansing, Michigan, due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Audrey was born in Freeport to Lenore Schneider and William H. O’Malia, Jr. and after her mother’s death, was raised by her father and stepmother, Bessie O’Malia. On July 10, 1943, she married Rolland L. Johnson. Audrey retired from Micro Switch in 1983 and, along with her husband, was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Audrey and Rolland moved to Lansing, Michigan, in 2003 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her mother; parents; beloved cousin, Louise Armagost; brother, Billy O’Malia; sister and brother-law, Dorothy and Lawrence Bordner; and niece, Mary.
Audrey is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rolland; children, Roger (Judy), Linda, Dale, Cynthia Slocum and Nancy (Gordon) Benjamin. She was also the proud Grandma to, Brian (Rachael) and Timothy (Kelly), Krista (Tom) and Kimberly (James), Matthew (Jessica) and Michelle (Jared); and Great-Grandma to Ella and Noah, Brenna, Uriah and Bella and Henry, who was born on July 21, 2011.
Audrey will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, love of special occasions, big band music and hymns, walk with God, intelligence and wit, excellent driving skills, Irish ancestry and fondness for sweets.
Per her request, Audrey has been cremated and will be interred with Rolland, upon his death, in Cedarville, Illinois. Audrey will be waiting with open arms and a big heart to welcome all of us to spend eternity with her and our Heavenly Father.
A Celebration of Audrey’s life will be held August 5, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church in Lansing, Michigan. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
