Arthur David Cherkinsky, M.D.
Age 79, passed away September 5, 2026. He was born July 22, 1947, in Detroit, to Alexander and Edith Cherkinsky. Art graduated from Oak Park High School before attending Wayne State University, where he graduated with his undergraduate degree and his medical degree. He worked in private practice as an internist and as an infectious disease specialist, followed by working for the State of Michigan until his retirement. Art loved ham radio, socializing puppies when the family raised litters at home, and used to do square dancing with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosanne Cherkinsky; son, Jeffrey Cherkinsky (Michelle Erskine); daughter, Lorri (Andrew) Gordon; granddaughter, Ziva Gordon; brother, Jordan (Marlene) Cherkinsky, as well as two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, 1924 Coolidge Rd., East Lansing, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Shaarey Zedek in memory of Dr. Arthur Cherkinsky.
