Alta I. Keehn
Age 96, of Bath, MI, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 6, 2017, in Okemos. She was born September 29, 1920, in Eaton Rapids to the late John and Florence (Young) Swartz.
Alta was a longtime member of the Bath Baptist Church. She had a pioneer spirit, being an avid hunter of wild game as well as mushrooms, and a fisherman.
She is survived by her children: Carolyn (Marvin) Koenigsknecht, Janet (Francis) Schneider, Kathleen (Jim) Huff, Richard (Vivian) Keehn, and John Keehn; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
Alta was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Keehn, in 1980, a daughter-in-law, two grandsons, one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, and eleven siblings.
The funeral service for Alta Keehn will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Richard Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Bath Baptist Church.11:00am

February 7, 2017 at 7:39 pmI have so many fond memories with my grandma, sitting around the kitchen table cracking walnuts to use in her freshly baked cookies, popping popcorn and stringing the kernels together to hang as garland on the Christmas tree, decorating cookies with every color of frosting and sprinkles you could find, picking up branches in the yard after a wind storm, playing card games by candle light when the lights went out, spending the night and trying to stay quiet so grandpa wouldn’t hear us giggling, picking the mulberries so she would make us a pie and of course, fishing for catfish at night from the shore of her property near West Branch! To me she was the best grandma anyone could ask for. Always a smile and a hug, she greeted all of us with kindness in her heart and interest in her eyes. This world was a better place with her in it. I will miss her. I love you grandma, rest in peace.

February 8, 2017 at 10:31 amAs my sister stated above there are so many memories that our grandma left us with. She was a “real” grandma”. Her no bake cookies, tuna fish sandwiched and potato salad was the best …way better than my mom’s. She was adventurous and she introduced all of the grandchildren to so many elements of life. Her words were empathetic, compassionate and understanding. She had a wonderful way of listening and giving advice that made everyone feel loved. I will never forget her homemade walnut cracker and her mulberry tree! She made an impression on all of us and was a wonderful asset to this world and my family. Thank you grandma, rest in peace I love you.

The very old movies that we’de watch together like Old Yeller and That Darn Cat. And one of my fondest of memories is a lullaby she would rock me to sleep to in her wooden rocking chair when my sister and I would stay the night. I can remember the fun egg hunts at Easter that would take place at her house and the smell of her cooking. She was an amazing woman with such a big hear and so much strengtht. I love you and I will truly miss you grandma. Rest In Peace.
