Albert D. “Al” Wright

Albert D. Wright

September 21, 1943 – August 13, 2024

Born on September 21, 1943, in San Jose, California, to the late Clifford and Opal Wright, Al passed away unexpectedly on August 13, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 58 years, Ruth Wright; their two daughters, April (Bill) East and Mary Wright; their five grandchildren, Ashley (Jon) Graham, Tim East, Lawrence (Brittany) Tillitson, Melodie Wright, and Lathyn Wright; their great-granddaughter, Ariana, along with other extended family members.

Though he was preceded in death by his cherished younger brother, Ford Wright, Al’s spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. His kindness, creativity, and love will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of calling him family and friend. He was a person who enjoyed making the world a better place. If anyone needed a helping hand, Al was sure to be there to give it. He was a friend to all and never knew a stranger.

He will be deeply missed by his family, who, in addition to calling him husband, father, and grandfather, also called him a friend. Family was his biggest pride; from trips to the horse barn at MSU, long backroad car rides, building ice skating rinks for his girls when they were younger, pinewood derby racing with his grandsons, Sunday morning coffee with his daughter and granddaughter, and everything in between, Al was a family man who loved it all. His family knew him to be the standard by which all men should be measured.

Al was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army with honor and dedication. Following his military service, he obtained his journeyman’s card and contributed his skills to the development of the B2 Bomber. His meticulous work ethic and commitment were hallmarks of his career until his retirement from Barnes Aerospace in 2009.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Al was a passionate amateur radio operator, known to many by his call sign, KE8DR. He spent countless hours in his radio room, connecting with people from all corners of the globe, sharing stories, and forming lifelong friendships. In addition to that, true to his last name of Wright, he was also an aviation enthusiast and enjoyed many glider flights as he soared through the skies.

“Hey Mr. Rabbit, your tails all white”

“Yes by golly, it snowed last night”

Albert’s family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2024.  Private interment with military honors will take place in Leek Cemetery.

Al was my best buddy thru High School; we met in grade 9 at Walter French, then lost touch after High School. Most of our interests were the same, after Al moved to Forest Avenue (about 10 houses South of where I grew up) we got to see each other again. Every question I had; Al knew or “ happened to find the answer for me”. He was also a Wheel Horse owner, of which I was really into. As a kid when we were at his house on Cavanau, we would raid his fathers’ raspberry patch, and he would say “it must have been the birds”. When ‘the gang’ got to drive their parents car, Al taught me about electricity and how to troubleshoot it on cars, we all kinda specialized on some aspect of car repair and then helped each other when we got our own car, so we could ‘ride the gut’ on Friday nights. Al just knew how to fix-do-repair everything
