Richard Lee Kirkpatrick

Thanks be to God for the many blessings that touched the life of Richard “Dick” Kirkpatrick.

Richard, age 82, of Lansing, MI, passed away January 22, 2023.

He was preceded in death by loving parents, Effie Ellen & Theron Francis Kirkpatrick.

Loved by family:

Mary Jean Brasington Kirkpatrick, wife of 60 years.

Jeanene & Arthur Pearson; Mary & Ryan Stees; Virginia (Ginny) & James Compton; and Ruth Pearson (daughter’s family)

Gerald “Jerry” Kirkpatrick; Caleb & Jenna Kirkpatrick (and baby Piper); Kristy Kirkpatrick (son’s family)

Janet Johnson; Diane (and the late Greg) Doherr; Doug & Denise Johnson (Nathan, Amber and Caiysen) (sister’s family)

Loved by nieces & nephews and many dear decades-long friends and colleagues.

Richard graduated from Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan, with honors. He spent more than 40 years working at General Motors (BOC Lansing & Milford plants) after studying Mechanical Engineering at General Motors Institute (GMI). His life’s work was improving fuel and safety systems in vehicles.

He loved his South Baptist (now South Church) family where he was a member for nearly 70 years.  He spent countless hours with friends from the “Homebuilder’s” Sunday School Class.

He was an active member of GM’s Society of Automotive Engineers, Oldsmobile Outdoor Club & Golf Club.  He loved fishing, golfing, stamp collecting, antiquing, gardening, reading and restoring things and if these options exist in heaven…..he is doing them now in a restored body.

Richard believed in God and that upon departing this life he would be reunited with loved ones in heaven.  He would want you to know that heaven is not full and to invite you to seek more information about eternal life at a church of your choosing.  May God bless you for the role you played in his life and continue to play in the lives of his family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr., Lansing, Michigan 48917.  Interment will take place at Delta Center Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service starts at 11:00 a.m.

A livestream of Richard’s funeral service will be held on the church’s website:  https://southlife.org/funeral/

Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in memory of Richard, to South Church, South Church 5250 Cornerstone Dr., Lansing, Michigan 48917. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

My condolences to all of Dick’s family for your loss of such a great, friendly, intelligent person.
I had the pleasure of knowing him well, and working with him at Lansing’s Oldsmobile Product Engineering, for most of those 40 years. Many fond memories, and lots of fun too!

Dick was always the gentleman no matter how intense the subject or discussion would become. May his family find peace in their memories of him. A really good guy.

Walt and I enjoyed Mary and Dick as friends from Homebuilders at South Baptist. Dick is now enjoying renewing his fellowship with those friends who have preceded him into the presence. of His Lord. Thankfully we will SOON see Dick and Walt again when the Lord calls us HOME. May the Lord continue to bless Mary and the family.

I was in Magni Industries Inc. Research Department working for our CEO Mr. Dave Berry on a lot of projects for Dick while he was in Lansing working on corrosion resistant fuel systems. He was a top notch engineer and was a great, kind and humble man. I learned a lot from him and I’m sure that he is in heaven analyzing and developing vehicle systems. God bless him and his family.

Dick’s family and ours spent many days on vacation and at their cottage at Intermediate Lake. Our families grew up together at South Baptist and the Homebuilders class. Fly in fishing trips in Canada.
He will be missed as a great Christian friend. He will be praising God with my Betty who will meet him there in the presence of their Savior. I pray for Mary and her family, love them all.
