Lansing, Michigan. Age 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on January 5, 2013. He was born on June 12, 1930 in Breckenridge, MI and has been a resident of Lansing since 1960.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 and graduated from MSU with a Master’s Degree in Vocational Rehab and was an avid Spartan fan. He was co-owner of Capitol Transport, LLC, Spartan and Yellow Cab, and was V.P. of the Walter Neller Co. for 28 years before forming Halstead Real Estate Co. He served on many community boards, including the YMCA, Peckham Vocational Industries and Capital Area Michigan Works. He was a trustee of Lansing Township’s Board and continued on as a member of the Board of Appeals. Hal was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and sang for 50 years in the Chancel Choir. He enjoyed bicycling and rode in the DALMAC several years with his daughters.
He was a very caring and generous man and will be sorely missed by all, especially by his wife, Boots, of 56 years and daughters Leigh (Luigi) Luciani, Tamara (Dan) Pion and Julie (Robert) Koger and grandchildren Travis, Tyler, Lizabeth, Katlyn, Nicolas, and William; brother Lee (Yolanda) and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Nora Halstead, twin brother Gerald and sister Margaret Winter.
Visitation will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St. from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8. The Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 510 Ottawa St., Lansing on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, in memory of Hal.
