Jean Marie Clum
Jean Marie Robinson Clum passed away May 12, 2026, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, with loving family by her side. She was 79.
Jean was born October 13, 1946, in Muskegon, Michigan, the third and youngest child of Gayle “Robby” and Evelyn Robinson. After graduating from Lansing Eastern High School in 1964 she went on to earn her Education degree at Michigan State University, where she starred as a varsity athlete on the basketball, field hockey and softball teams. Her pride for her Quakers and Spartans was lifelong and was felt in almost every aspect of her life.
After starting her career in Bay City as a Physical Education Teacher, Jean returned to her beloved Eastern High School in 1970 to teach and coach, relishing the opportunity to lead the newly introduced women’s varsity volleyball and softball programs. From 1973-1978 her Quaker volleyball team had a record of 70-1, winning the league all 5 years she was on the bench. However, it was on the diamond that she saw her most success. During her tenure as head softball coach from 1975-1983, she led the Quakers to a record of 148-27 (100-12 in league play), four district titles, two league titles and the ultimate prize, a State Championship in 1981. She was honored as softball coach of the year in both 1981 and 1983 and ultimately recognized by both the Lansing Eastern Athletic Hall of Fame (inducted 2010) and the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame (2018).
It was also on the diamond that Jean met her husband Richard “Dick” Clum, an accomplished MHSAA umpire. They would be married for 35 years and shared a beautiful and loving life filled with adventure, laughter, and cherished time together. They loved traveling, golfing, fishing, and spending time with family, and many weekends found them at Spartan Stadium and Munn Ice Arena, enthusiastically supporting the Spartan football team and especially her beloved Spartan “Icers.”
She had a love for staying active and enjoyed fitness, treasured her breakfast dates with friends at Piazzano’s, and loved spending time on the golf course – both as a dedicated Ladies League member at Royal Scot and longtime Player Assistant at Hawk Hollow/Eagle Eye. She also enjoyed relaxing with episodes of Gunsmoke and cherished trips to visit her son Mike in Ludington and West Branch. Some of her most treasured moments were trips to Lake City, where Fourth of July and Thanksgiving gatherings became lasting traditions filled with family, joy, and memories she held especially close to her heart.
Preceded in death by Dick and brothers Bob and Dan Robinson, Jean is survived by her loving son, Mike (Sue) Clum of West Branch, dear sister, Nancy Ingram of Lake City, and beloved nieces and nephews, Mary Robinson (Jeff) Fuhrman of Lake City, Kelli Robinson (John) Robb of Traverse City and Dan (Kristie) Robinson of Houston, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews: Garrett Fuhrman (Madison Brosky), Haley (Scott) Besko, Casey Fedewa (Heyward Benton), Riley Fedewa, Blake (Raphaela) Robinson, Brody Robinson and Brynn Robinson.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at Royal Scot Golf Course on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 3:00-6:00 PM. Jean requested attendees wear their best Quaker Blue and Gold or Spartan Green and White. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Greater Lansing Food Bank, Capital Area Humane Society, or Lansing Eastern Athletic Hall of Fame (c/o Jim Lynch, 2706 Wabash Rd., Lansing, MI 48910).
