Nancy Field Brown
It is with great sadness that I am writing this obituary for my sister, Nancy Field Brown; known by the nickname “Brownie” to many of her friends.
Nancy passed on January 28th, 2026, at the age of 74. Nancy was born in Troy, NY in 1951, and grew up in Bay City, Michigan, in a Tudor style house on the corner of Johnson and 5th Street. After she graduated from Michigan State University, majoring in Journalism, she moved to Williamston, Michigan in 1976. Nancy held a senior Leadership position with the State Bar of Michigan. She dedicated her career and intellect to the State Bar of Michigan for 50 years. Nancy’s parents were Barbara K. Field from Vermont (1925-1998) and Robert Grant Brown (1926-1993) from Cincinnati, Ohio – a metallurgical engineer who worked many years as a vice president for Welman Dynamics in the Bay City area. Nancy had one brother, Bob Brown, and one sister, Kimberley Brown (Carolan) and one niece, Kistine Carolan. She loved writing, dachshunds, and the Detroit Lions. Nancy will be deeply missed.

Seeing her later in our careers in Lansing was always a highlight—she remained the same brilliant, kind ‘Brownie’ I knew growing up. She was a powerhouse at the State Bar, but I’ll also always remember her deep love for her dachshunds and her sharp writer’s wit. She was a true friend, and she will be dearly missed. My deepest condolences to Bob, Kimberley, and the family.”
