Maria Tassopoulos passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015, at home surrounded by family and friends. Maria was born in Theoktistos, Arcadia, Greece. She emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1962, and Lansing, Michigan in 1967. From 1967 until her retirement in 1997, Maria and her husband George Tassopoulos owned and operated The Best Steak House on 3020 East Kalamazoo Street in Lansing. Maria worked 7 days a week 10 hours a day providing good food and service to the community; she took great pride in her work and cherished the memories she made at the Steak House.

Maria was vibrant, energetic, and full of life all her days. Her sense of humor and keen insight were a constant until the end. She leaves behind her close companion and sister-in-law Eleftheria Tassopoulos, whom she lived with for 40 years, nephews Andreas and Dimos Tassopoulos whom she helped raise as if they were her own sons, great-nephew and niece Ioannis (Yanni) and Lydia Tassopoulos, brother Pericleas Giammas, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends throughout the world. She will be missed so much by so many.  May her memory be Eternal.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E. Saginaw St., Lansing. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Her family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel where the Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

    I love you very much. I am very great that you are my Yaya and you lived and I cherished lots of good memories with you. Like when we would pick flowers and just sometimes sit on the the porch with you. Your just really special to me. I love you so much.

    She was so nice and cute, and always very kind. My grandchildren Ioannis and Lydia Tassopoulos love her so much. She will be missed. May God keep her in his glory.
