Passed away February 12, 2015; he was 97. Ben joined the Beurmann-Marshall Corporation in 1935 and retired as chairman and CEO in 1984. An avid trout fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Trout Unlimited. He also was an honorary life member of the Lansing Country Club and the Lansing City Club. Ben also belonged to the Automobile Club and the University Club. A WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 through 1946. He flew in 70 bombing missions over Europe, attaining the rank of Captain.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Polly; brother, Gerald; and sister, Madeline. Surviving are: sons, James (Cynthia) McKouen of Brighton and Michael (Lilah) McKouen of Lansing; daughter, Pamela (Duane) McMichael of Mason; 6 grandchildren, Matthew McKouen, Kevin McKouen, Meaghan (Ben Cooley) McKouen, Jason Hicks, Nicole McMichael and Erin McMichael; 3 great-grandchildren, Mishelle, Josh and Elijah; great-great-granddaughter, Charlie; and sister-in-law, Betty McKouen.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave., Lansing, with The Rev. Msgr. Bernard Reilly as celebrant. Private interment will take place at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Cathedral.
