Of Lansing, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the age of 79.  He joins his beloved sons Randy (Chicken Man) and Tommy.  He was also preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Vern Johnson, step dad Ray Oswalt, siblings Vernice and Norm.  Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Marilyn (Meredith) Johnson, children Ron, Tammie (David) Rousseau, Tim (Drena). Jim is also survived by his grandchildren Marshall (April), Justin, Daniel, Kyle, Jason, Steven, and Keli; brothers Robert Johnson and Rick Oswalt and a special niece April Batten.

Jim was born and raised in Millett, Michigan and quit school early to pursue work as a mechanic. He landed a job with the BWL where he retired after 30+ years.  Retirement allowed Jim to pursue his hobbies fulltime by fixing all types of motors including his favorite, motorcycles. He also took great satisfaction from restoring older vehicles from Model T Roadsters to his favorite a 1947 Hudson Pickup. He spent many hours reading newspapers, magazines, and books and tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed visiting with friends at his favorite watering holes, Wednesdays at the B & I Bar and Fridays at the Colonial. He could converse on many subjects and enjoyed a good debate.  He played cards all his life and continued his card playing skills when bedridden by playing internet poker and on occasion, would be joined by his two brothers. His pets kept him company throughout his illness and Hospice of Lansing took great care of his medical needs.

The family is hosting a luncheon in Jim’s honor Sunday, February 24, 2013, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Colonial Bar, 3425 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Lansing, MI 48910.  Please consider making a donation to Hospice of Lansing, Inc. in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.
