Mr. “E” was my favorite teacher. He encouraged my love for music in all of the school chorus I participated in from 6th grade on, as well as in Mason’s First Presbyterian Church, where I sang in the choir. He was greatly loved by his students and will be missed. I send you my deepest sympathy.

I have fond memories of singing under Mr. Emrick’s direction in both junior and senior high, Mason Public Schools. I learned much which I am still putting into practice today, e.g., consonant endings of words, breathing with the punctuation, volume/tone… And every Christmas I still sing the refrain, Gloria in excelsis Deo as he taught: Gloria in “eggshell-sis” Deo. A few years ago, he made himself known to me when he and his wife were dining at a local restaurant where i happened to stop on my way home from work. I just hope I told him then how much those years under his leadership meant to me…and still do.

Great story from him about a college orchestra performance in which there was a piccolo solo and no piccolo player. He whistled the part.Loved him as a teacher and as a man.

Mr. Emrick gave me courage to sing publicly. With his training, I spent many years in church choirs and as a church cantor. He was a young teacher when I knew him and I’m glad I had the experience of having him as a music coach. I’m sure he’s singing with the celestial choir now.

I played in the Gladwin high school band with him. We didn’t have a piccolo, either, and he whistled the part for Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Whenever I hear that march, I remember Warren Emrick.
