Virginia K. "Ginny" Graham

Virginia K. Graham passed away November 8, 2013.

Ginny has joined her Higher Power and beloved husband Robert Graham in the next step of her journey to celebrate a new beginning in heaven.  Ginny was also preceded to our Heavenly Father by her great-grandson, Christos Kalagis. We cherish the positive memories of our Mother and are grateful for her love and devotion to us.

Ginny was born in Cleveland Heights, OH to Mary and Harry S. Kartsher, 9/9/26.  She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and also attended Miami University in Oxford, Oh.  She married her college sweetheart, Robert Graham, on December 25, 1946.

She was a very special person to her “family” in Alcoholics Anonymous, having lead countless meetings and sponsoring many people through their sobriety.  While giving a lot to AA, she received much more than she gave in terms of love, self-respect, friendships and personal growth.  Ginny’s nick-name “Ginny, Sure As Heck” came from her testimony at meetings, where she’d say “My name is Ginny, and I’m sure as heck an alcoholic”!

Ginny worked for Lansing Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, and CATA, and had an engraving business.  She was quite active in Meals On Wheels, DeWitt Retreat, and Women of Unity.

Ginny will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family, daughters, Linda Loveless, Mary Jo Carpenter (Mike), and Robin Turner (Jesse); grandchildren Amy House and Traci VanRensselaer, Ali Zachary, Janette Kalagis-Foster, Graham, Shaunna, Hillary, and Spencer Turner, and nine great-granddaughters.

The family would like to express their appreciation to those who cared for Ginny in her last days from Heartland Hospice, Burcham Hills Retirement Center, and her Primary Care Provider Laura.   You eased our Mother and family on to her next step in her journey with dignity and respect, and we thank you.

A memorial service will be held at 11:0o a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1315 Abbot Rd., East Lansing, MI. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

To Ginny Grahams Daughter’s Robin, Mary Jo, and Linda, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren,
A beautiful Rose is missing from our garden. I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for sharing your Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother with me.
Ginny lived where I worked for a time she was my buddy and true friend in every sence of the word. She was a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Her sence of humor was priceless.
I was introduced to the music of Daniel O’Donald by Ginny. I happened to be surfing the channels one evebing in the big living room. The residence wanted something funny not depressing. When I got to #13 PBS Ginny shouted stop don’t go any further It’s Daniel. I asked who Daniel was and she replied O’Donald. She told everyone in the living room we would just love him. She was right we all loved the show. When PBS always did their pledge drives Ginny would have me look up to se when he would be on sio we didn’t miss him.
I even went to see him in concert and as he ran around the enter room getting people to sing with him. i wanted him to stop at me so I could give him a hug from Ginny and tell him who his #1Fan was.
He never came near me.
I will always treasure the memories I have of Ginny and I have a special plce in my where I can remember those happy moments.
At this time my thoughts and prayer’s are with all of you.
All my love and smiles
