Sylvia Mae (Van Court) Root

Sylvia Mae (Van Court) Root, formerly of Holt/Dimondale area, died January 28, 2014 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, George L. Root, and by her second husband Lee A. Nessan. Sylvia is survived by her two daughters, Deanna (Danny) Wear of St. Johns and Katie (Tom) Pruim of Muskegon; beloved grandchildren, Dana Newkirk, Darcy (Rod) Trayer, Darren (Angela) Wear, and Eric (Gina) Pruim; and many great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother, Jack (Sharon) Van Court, her sister Pat Bliesener, sisters-in-law Ernestine Root and Opal Root, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was an accomplished seamstress, excellent artist, avid reader, and loved to travel and spend time at Lake Michigan. She was a former employee of Holt High School, as well as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts and other organizations.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be sent to the Activity Dept. at Hazel Findlay Country Manor, 1101 S. Scott Rd., St. Johns, MI 48879. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

She also had grandchildren from her second marriage to my father Lee A. Nessan. Those children loved and cherished the only grandmother they remember and lovingly refer to her as Grandma Mae. Those children are Joseph Lee Nessan, James Alan Nessan, Savanna Marie Nessan, and Daminga Margret Shane Nessan and also 6 great grandchildren. We visited while she was in Edgewood but lost track of her. On Halloween the girls found her and was able to see her one last time. The workers said it was the happiest she had seemed in quite a while. We love you very much Mae.

Also my brothers children Ben Nessan, Nate Nessan, Sara Nessan, Andy Nessan, Jessica Nessan, and Mary Nessan.
