Samuel Detwiler

Samuel J. DetwilerSam loved life, his family and friends to his core. Even his deep love and compassion couldn’t prevent him from losing his battle with multiple health conditions on July 12, 2013. Sam was born on October 20, 1979 in Lansing, Michigan. He leaves behind the love of his life, his fiancée, Ann Parker; his parents, Jim and Mary Ellen Detwiler; his sisters, Wendy (Justin) Summers, Emily (fiancée Phillip Wrenbeck) Detwiler, Jill Detwiler; his grandmother, Jane Belden; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sam’s friends and cousins loved him as a brother. He was an unofficially adopted son to many. Sam always looked for adventures. After graduating from Haslett High School in 1998, he moved to Colorado where he spent time in Grand Junction and Denver. He spent many a day exploring the mountains. He came back to Haslett for a short while, and then left for another adventure in Maui. He loved being in the ocean spear fishing. He came back to Haslett once again. His next place to explore was San Diego. Sam’s love for family and friends brought him back to Haslett, where he built a life together with his wonderful fiancée. Through all of Sam’s health conditions, he was able to earn a degree in phlebotomy and was looking forward to returning to college. A memorial for Sam will be on July 21, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Detwiler Home in Haslett (9313 Coleman Rd). The family is asking that in lieu of sending flowers, please make donations to Haven House or the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

My heart goes out to Sam’s family and all those that had the joy of knowing him. He always had a smile on his face and I hope that the memories he left with each of you will, with time, help to console you and you will find peace as he has. Love you Sam.
