Bob Spalding

Age 87, died on December 19, 2015.

Born in Portland, MI on October 3, 1928 to Robert & Beatrice Spalding.  Bob served in the US Army from 1950-1952 in the 14th Airborne Ranger Division.  He joined the Lansing Police Department in 1953 and was a member of the department’s pistol team and achieved the classification of expert marksman.  He retired in 1978 from LPD and then went to work as an Income Tax Investigator for the City of Lansing retiring again in 1994.  Bob was the owner of Spalding & Associates Tax Service.

Bob was an avid golfer and bowler.  His hobbies were gardening, woodworking and spending winter months in Florida.  He was a member of the FOP, DAV and Michigan Sheriff’s Association.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (1960) and Beatrice (2015).

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Eleanor (Valkanoff) Spalding; 3 children, Alan (Julie) Spalding, Alicia (Eric) Nordmann and Aaron Spalding; grandchildren, Trey, Tyler, and Taya Nordmann; Haley and Ellimae Spalding; brothers, Earl (Kate) Spalding, Tony Spalding and many nieces & nephews; special cousin, Joyce (Bill) Dutcher.  He adored his family, especially his grandchildren who brought him so much joy, and his dog Carmel.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. Mark Sietsema officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  His family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, where the Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E. Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48912 or to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 W. Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48915, in memory of Robert Spalding.
