Rev. James J "Jim" Lowman

Rev. James J “Jim” Lowman, 69, of East Lansing, MI, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 2nd, 2015, at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, MI.

Jim was born in Kalamazoo, MI, on January 4th, 1946 to James and Kathryn (Bolhuis) Lowman. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 1964. He continued his education and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Studies from North Central University. He also received a Certificate from The Catholic Health Association of the United States for completing a Correspondence Course in Housekeeping Management.

Jim loved his country and was proud to serve in the United States Army from September 24th, 1964 – August 8th, 1967. He was stationed in Germany and also in Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam.

Jim was married to his pen-pal sweetheart, Cheryl (Johnson), on August 10th, 1968; they were married 47 years.

Jim worked as a custodian with East Lansing Public Schools and retired in 2011. He pastored at Central Lake Assembly of God, assisted his father for 2 years at Pullman Country Chapel, and also pastored at Holt Assembly of God.  In recent years, he had become an Ordained Minister with the Pentecostal Church of God. Jim was actively assisting his son at Grace Chapel Pentecostal Church of God in Saint Johns, MI for the past 10 years.

First and foremost, Jim loved Jesus. He told everyone he could find about Him. Jim’s favorite thing to do was spend time with his wife. He enjoyed going to the bookstore, reading magazines while sharing a cappuccino together and just talking, getting a coffee and sitting by the lake with her, and taking care of her in every way that he could.  He loved to spend time with his children and his grandchildren. Jim loved serving. He truly had a servant’s heart and always looked for ways that he could help, whether at church or around the neighborhood where he lived. He valued his friendships very much. Jim enjoyed the woods and being in the outdoors. He loved to take walks, and to fish. He loved watching all things western, tv shows, movies, whatever he could find.

Jim is survived by his mother, Kathryn (Bolhuis) Lowman of Allegan, MI; wife, Cheryl (Johnson) Lowman of East Lansing, MI; children, James (Sharleen) Lowman of Lansing, MI, Jeremiah (Julie) Lowman of Saint Johns, MI; siblings, David (Cindy) Lowman of Hopkins, MI, Kathleen (Larry) Goodrich of Arlington, TX, Frankie (Mitch) Marcell of Farmington, MN; 6 grandchildren, Tyler Lowman, Jake Lowman, Madelyn Lowman, Seth Lowman, Haleigh Lowman, Charles Lowman; and additional family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. James Lowman.
