My heart is breaking at the loss of a very special man. Many good times live in my memories, whether in Kansas or Michigan, of laughter, love and, of course, card games. Mike always had the best hugs. Love, prayers and our deepest sympathy to the Ledyard Family.

I am a classmate of Mike’s. My husband worked for his father, Ed Ledyard, at Motor Wheel Corporation.

We are so sorry for your loss. Heaven got another angel.

Shocked by the news of Mike’s passing. As my own grief is still raw at Denise’s death, I understand the anguish you are all feeling today and hope you know everyone’s prayers are what will carry you through this time. I’m sure there is a big card party in heaven today.

Mike will be missed by many in the community and the Nation. His work in creating and implementing a CRASH Data System for the State of Michigan directly contributed to significantly reducing the number of highway deaths by giving law enforcement, traffic planners, safety engineers, and others a diagnostic tool that told them “where the system is hurting.” He freely shared his knowledge and experience with other states helping them reduce fatalities as well and they emulated what he taught them. He was instantly respected personally and professionally by anyone who worked with him. His real work was manifested in the relationships he fostered. He taught by example and treated people the way he wanted to be treated. I learned a great deal from him. Sue and Family, as the pain from his passing subsides, may you find comfort in all the good memories he leaves with you.

I was so touched by what Doug Couto wrote about my Uncle Mike above. I have worked for the State of Michigan since the 1980s, and all through my career I have connected with people who worked with and for my Uncle Mike. The reaction was always the same when they found out I was his niece…a big smile and many statements about what a wonderful man he was, and all the good he did in the world. I heard more than once a former colleague say, “He was the best boss I ever had…we miss him.” He was a class act always and set such a wonderful example for me growing up. He was a part of every important event in my life and gave wonderful advice over and over again. I will miss his humor most of all…my children adored him because he was never too busy to get down on the floor and play games or help them put their legos together…and oh how he made them laugh. He was a special man that will remain in my heart always.
