Melvin G ParksMelvin G Parks was born October 15th 1926 in Dansville, Michigan.  As a member of the Greatest Generation, he served as an Information Specialist in the Army during WWII.  After the war, he met his wife Doloris, a story of unending love for 61 years, at radio school in Kansas City.  She preceded him to The Father in 2010.  They had 5 children, 4 surviving: Ronald, Gary, Vicki Kaiser and Deborah Horstik as well as 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  “Mel” worked for many years at the company he founded and owned Mobile TV.  Mel was a Christian who passed his beliefs on to his children and grandchildren.  He had a special connection with his great grandchild Autumn during the last years of his life.  His favorite hobbies were building room additions and technology.  He loved to pass time doing crossword puzzles and watching game shows.  He attended Grace United Methodist Church the last 45 years of his life where he served on many committees.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment to follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capitol Area Humane Society or Ele’s Place in memory of Melvin Parks.
