Melody Ann Seymour

Born October 29, 1945, passed peacefully at her home surrounded by family on March 25, 2015 following a courageous 9-year battle with cancer.

Melody is predeceased by her parents James and Virginia Terrill of Lansing, MI.  Cherished memories will reside with her husband of 51 loving years John Seymour, children William (Denise) Seymour, Jane (Chad) Cloos, Brian Shoen, and treasured grandchildren Dustin, Drew, Kasey, and Isaac. She will also be remembered fondly by her siblings James Jr., Pat Smith, Sandra White, and Jack Terrill, as well as many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

After raising 3 children, at age 40, Melody graduated Magna Cum Laude from LCC.  Thereafter, she worked several years as a Registered Nurse at Sparrow Hospital until the opportunity arose to babysit twin grandsons Dustin and Drew – a 17-year experience that she, John, and the twins treasured dearly.

Melody always felt she lived a charmed and blessed life with John.  She adored every detail of her farm and farmhouse, from the knotty pine kitchen where she fed John breakfast daily and spent eons chatting over the island with her special cousin, and partner in many adventures, Pamela Ross; to the sunny living room where she sat with her tea and crossword, cozied by the fireplace and pets, and where family celebrated holidays enjoying her lovely collections and decorations.  She loved walking her dogs daily through the farm trails, and the many hours spent at the pond with John watching wildlife and holding hands.  She adored her flowers, multiple bird feeders, Spartan Basketball, and the deck where she and John spent the years visiting with loved ones.

Melody was a very special person – adored dearly by her husband, she was everyone’s favorite person. She was very wise, witty, articulate, kind and compassionate.  No words can do justice to the extent that she enriched all our lives.

Thank you to Sparrow Hospital and Hospice who provided incredible care and support throughout.  And special recognition goes to her grandson Dustin and hospice care tech Trina who gave her an abundance of special attention, dignity and comfort in her final weeks.

A memorial at the farm will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.

I attended and graduated at J.W. Sexton High School with her. While we never dated I found Melody to be bright, happy, full of life, and fun to tease. I am not surprised her life turned out so well. Melody all these years has stuck in my mind. In High School she was one cute kid. One often wonders about his classmates lives, how they turned out, how many children did they have and so forth. I see by reading her obituary her life turned out just grand. For that I am very happy for her and her family. I am sorry to hear of her passing, but then again, we all get there sooner or later. Family, please accept my condolences. As for you Melody, I will see you in the next life.
