Mary E. Smith

Mary Elizabeth Smith was born November 19, 1921 in Delhi Township to John B. and Ruth (Parman) Fay.  She passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011.  She is a veteran of World War II, serving in the Waves and a member of the American Legion Post Nuwarine 535 for the past sixty-six years.

Mary worked for G & G catering and Archie Tarpoff’s catering.  An avid armchair sports fan, she enjoyed traveling and playing euchre with the girls.

She was married to Clyde B. Smith on August 20, 1948 and soon after moved to a dairy farm in Mason to raise their family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, brothers John W. Fay, Lucien P. Fay, and Charles Fay.  She is survived by her children Bradner Smith (Valerie), Karen Meirndorf, Karol Fry, John S. Smith (Sally), 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Betty Fay, Shirley Cuicci (Jack), Betty Simmon, and Leoma Smith.

The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 4-7 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2011.  A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, in North Aurelius Cemetery in Mason.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life of Mason, Holt United Methodist Church, or Area 8 Special Olympics.

So sorry Brad and family….But think of the “Welcome Home” party on the other side….there are so many so happy to have her Home! We WILL all meet again….God’s Peace to all…..Much Love.

On behalf of American Legion Post 535, Mary will be greatly missed. We loved her humor, kindness, and intellect. We are keeping a good thought for her family and wishing them well. God bless and rest in peace, comrade; The Greatest Generation indeed.

She will be spending Christmas with Jesus this year. She will be greatly missed by all that knew & loved her; but will get to see her again someday. Prayers for the family & friends that are missing her. RIP
