Marjorie A. Moore

Marjorie A. Moore, 88 (March 29, 1925 – January 15, 2014), a life-long resident of Lansing, is survived by her daughter Suzanne Moore, her life-time friend Donnie Holmes, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded by her husband Harold A. Moore and her daughters Camille, Marjorie, and Pamela Anne Moore.

Marjorie will be most remembered for her dedicated service to the enrichment of life for the developmentally-disabled community.  Her advocacy began on December 29, 1947, when she delivered her daughter, Pamela, her own developmentally-disabled child. At that time there were very few services for this community in the way of education or housing, because they were not expected to live or be able to learn.  As a result, she and her husband, Harold, were among the first members of the Greater Lansing Association of Retarded Citizens, and went on to establish the Moore Living Connections, which provides housing for this community from fully-assisted to independent living throughout the state of Michigan.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home. In remembrance of Marjorie, donations are requested to go to Moore Living Connections, 401 West Jolly Road, Lansing, Michigan 48910.

Suzanne,
I am so sorry for your loss.
As you know, I have served on the Moore Living Connections Board of
Directors for quite a few years. My first few meetings I wondered what I had gotten into, but then I started sitting next to this lady
named Marjory and heard the whole story about Moore Living Connections. What an inspiration she was and will be for ever.
As I moved up in the officers positions and became President of the Board, “Marge” and I became good friends.
We spent lots of time on the phone. She quite often shared her opinion on some topics that I never took to the board and we laughed about later. I will miss those talks.
Our last talk she told me that she wasn’t down for the count, just another issue to take care of.
I am going to be our of town for Marjorie’s service on Sunday but my thoughts will be with you.

Sue, Family, and Friends: Marjorie was truly a wonderful, lovely, and classy lady. I had the pleasure of meeting Marjorie when she joined my Red Hat Mommas (misspelled intentionally) chapter of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed wearing her red had and attending the luncheons and events. We were honored that she was a member of our chapter.

We knew Marjorie and her husband had dedicated themselves to making this world a better place, by establishing the Moore Living Connections, to provide this very specialized, necessary housing.

We have been blessed to have been a small part in Marjorie’s life here on earth. She was truly a strong, intelligent, and caring person. Marjorie wrote a Red Hat poem, which I submitted to the Red Hat Society, hoping they would honor her for her creative contribution to the international world of the Red Hat Society. Thank you, Marjorie, for being our friend!

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be at the service on Sunday, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you.

I only got to truly know her last fall. She was a kind and warm hearted person. Suzie please accept my condolences and sympathy. Please tell Donnie I am thinking of her also. I am sure she and Pam are having the best time being back together.

My mother’s little sister….Aunt Marge was a good aunt. She was a fine example of keeping in contact with your family. She always took time to call or write. I always think of this connection and try to pay it forward with my family….at least I can try. Thank you for all the love Aunt Marge.
