Lynn Kerner Rycus

Rycus, LynnEast Lansing, Michigan.

Lover of life, laughter and family, Lynn Kerner Rycus passed away September 8, 2017 in her East Lansing home.

She was surrounded by the enduring love of her husband of 49 years, Ronald K. Rycus and her children, BJ (Jill) Rycus and Jeremy (Deb) Rycus. She is survived by siblings Teri (Steve) Barkin and Donny (Bonnie) Kerner, as well as grandchildren Isabelle Rycus, Max Rycus and Leo Rycus.

Lynn’s beautiful smile was a reflection of the warmth and generosity that filled her heart. Her passion for living life to its fullest gave her boundless energy to overcome health obstacles—often traveling, frequently shopping, forever making time for those she loved.

Above all, Lynn believed in family. She was a builder of memories, a meticulous historian and a fierce protector of those she held closest. Among them, her three grandchildren, who gave her indescribable joy. Everyone who knew Lynn could see her pride in being a wife, sister, aunt and “Bubbe” to those she loved.

Lynn’s generous spirit and unbridled enthusiasm extended to those beyond her family too. She nurtured lifelong friends and everyday acquaintances, always putting their needs ahead of her own.

Lynn became a leader at an early age and remained an example to follow for her siblings and children. She went on to epitomize the word, “supermom—” first, as a 35-year-old Michigan State University student, and later as a communications professional for both the Michigan Attorney General and Department of Treasury.

A memorial service to honor her memory will be at noon on Monday, September 11, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek 1924 Coolidge Road, East Lansing. In lieu of flowers, Lynn’s family requests donations be sent to Sparrow Home Hospice.
