Kay Kenyon

Lansing, Michigan

Kay Ladone Kenyon was born on July 8, 1937, and passed away on June 13, 2016. She was born in Dearborn, Michigan, the eldest of two daughters to Rupert and Mary Senter. She met her husband (David) of 57 years at Dearborn High School. They married in 1957. Kay and David moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, after marrying where they started their family.

Kay worked at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, considered one of the fanciest, hippest dinner nightclub experiences of that time. She worked in the back office answering phones and helping organize events. One of her fondest memories was speaking to Frank Sinatra on the phone; he called her “baby.”

Kay and David moved from New Jersey to Chicago and finally back to Michigan where they raised their four children. Kay worked as a purchasing agent at Melling Forging Co., Troy Design and eventually GM. She enjoyed work and was that rare woman of the time, working a full time job and raising a family.

Kay was a lover of music, and movies. She would go to a movie every day if she could and she danced with the best of them. Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darrin always helped her get her groove on. She also enjoyed baking and was adored by her grandchildren for her famous sugar cookies, cinnamon rolls and fruit pies.

Her husband preceded her in death in February of 2015. She missed him greatly and is now at peace with him. Kay is survived by her sister, Nancy (David) Lowery; four children, David (Julie), Wendy, Kris (Scott) Fisher, Jeff (Vincent); and 6 grandchildren, Jaymes, Joel (Kelly), Andrew Zawisza, Kara (Michael) Fields, Alexi Fisher and Karly Fisher. Kay was thrilled to be a great-grandmother to Olive and Juniper.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with visitation on Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 4-6 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

I worked with Kay at Melling. I was a young girl, fresh out of High School and sat right outside of her office. She became like an ‘at work mother’ to me. I’ll never forget when I was pregnant for my first child – there was something strange going on and I was worried about what it was – she put her around me and said “Dear, those are his first hiccups!” She was THE BEST – always chipper and smiling. She used to come tooling into the parking lot with her radio up, singing / dancing to whatever song was on. She was a peach!
My condolences to the family – may you find peace in your memories and the new stories you hear about her from people you have never even met, but who were touched by this beautiful woman!

Dear Jeff and family, so sorry for your loss. Kay was very supportive when my mother was ill and in her last days. She made her a banana cream pie! We had many happy travels with Sue (Teer) Whitehearse as our “leader.” especially that one to NY where we met Jeff and Vinnie. She lived life to the fullest.
