Kathryn L. "Kitty" Patton

Kathryn "Kitty" PattonPeacefully returned home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, November 20, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, PA September 25, 1936 to Robert (Scalie) Jones, Sr. and Christine Lorraine Moore Jones.  She is the fourth child of five children born in the Jones family.  Three brothers Gilbert, Robert, William and one sister Juanita Feggins.   Married Clarence Patton and conceived two daughters Monica and Diane.  Kathryn lived and worked in Philadelphia for 61 years of her life.  After a fight and survival of Breast Cancer she moved to Lansing, Michigan in November of 1997 joining her daughter Diane and husband James Flanagan.  She adored her grandsons Alexander and Nigel Flanagan.  One of her better joys was to attend their high school graduations in 2010 and 2012.

Kathryn Graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1954.  During her high school years she worked for Father John at St. Charles Catholic Church and school located on 2oth and Christian in South Philadelphia part time for several years.  After graduation from high school she married and started working full time for the Federal Government starting as an administrative clerk and later into supervisory positions within the department of defense until retirement in 1991 after 30 years of service.

Kathryn was a devoted mother and encouraged her girls to be involved in many activities such as the Joan Myers/Phil Danco School of Dance, singing lessons, swimming, and track and Field summer programs.  She always had a high energy, vibrant and fun loving spirit.  Once you met Kathryn she was a person you would never forget. She could warm your heart in 15 minutes and within that time you knew that her belief and faith in God was evident. She showed love toward everyone she came in contact with.  Many of Kathryn’s closest friends stem from kindergarten or grade school and have lasted to date.

While in Philadelphia Kathryn spent countless hours volunteering with various programs working with young children and troubled teens.  If she did not start the program she would spend lots of time refining it to perfection.  Kathryn also went back to school part time until she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Antioch University Philadelphia.

Kathryn worked at Waverly Community Schools’ East Intermediate as a Lunch Aide and a little while at its day care facility.  She loved working with the children and spoke of them often.  She became a member of the University Reformed Church located in East Lansing, Michigan and served as Deaconess from 2007 to 2010 until her health could not sustain the drive from Lansing to East Lansing.  She later attended Mount Hope Church located in Delta Township. She was an avid bible reader and enjoyed telling stories.  Kathryn’s favorite hobby was talking to people and making them laugh.  Kathryn was a joy to be around; if you did not get to know her you truly missed a Blessing!

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment to follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her daughter, Diane Flanagan, for a special project at Eaton Community Palliative Care.

A loving, devoted, warm, and steadfast person…a very special, mother, grandmother and friend. Life seems a whole lot emptier without the kind presence of Ms. Kathryn. Now, may you rest in Heaven!
