June E. Sterling

Age 82, of Lansing, MI, passed away April 22, 2013 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 21, 1930, in Hickman, KY, daughter of Fred and Tommie Meyer.

June was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School – class of 1948. She was a longtime active member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, an avid MSU hockey fan, and she volunteered for several years at Ingham Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed spending summers with family and friends at Glen Lake.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; daughters, Susan (Todd) Sterling-Leimenstoll and Barbara (Thomas Jones) Smith; grandchildren, Katie (Jason Marentette) Niles, Kelli (Aaron) Wisniewski, David Niles, Nicole Smith, Brandon Leimenstoll; and great-grandchildren, Rylee Robert, Levi Wisniewski, Adalyn Marentette.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 549 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing, with the Rev. James R. Lichtenberger and the Rev. Matthew A. Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church’s endowment fund.

We are very sorry to learn of June’s passing but we also know she had a gret faith and she is resting now in a better place. We know what a close family you all are and that deep closeness will help you through these difficult times. We were so sorry to here of June’s passing. I enjoyed going to coffee with her and Bob. She was truly a great lady. I know you will miss her deeply. Mike and Cindy

…big, big loss to this family…. I met June more than 60 years ago, and have been enriched as I witnessed her unswerving commitment to Bob, their children and grandchildren. She was literally “the girl next door” when Bob met her… and she could not have chosen a nicer family to join way back then, for Bob and his parents are/were superb folks! Thank you June and Bob for the committed friendship you have offered me.
