Jean E. Murninghan

Age 88, of Lansing, went to be with the Lord August 18, 2011. She was born November 12, 1922 in Lansing, the daughter of Linford and Thyra Scott.

Jean graduated from Lansing Central High School, class of 1940. She enjoyed organizing their alumni reunions. She retired from the Ingham County prosecutor’s office. Jean loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed travel, playing cards, was an avid bowler, and she participated in all types of dancing. Jean was a big fan of the MSU Marching Band. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale. She also loved going to Kewpie’s and had a passion for Colonial-style decorating.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband L.C. Murninghan, grandson Kenneth Cosgrove, an infant brother, and sister Betty Dean. She is survived by her children, John (Jan) Cosgrove of Arizona, Dennis (Lyz) Cosgrove of Arizona, Barbara (Guiseppe) Stella of Lansing, Wayne Murninghan of Indiana, Karen (Robert) Peabody of Hastings, and Rhonda McDonald of Arizona, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
