Harla Jean (Parkhurst) Eriksen

Age 71, of Houghton Lake, formerly of Holt, died on November 23, 2010.  She was born in Lansing on October 4, 1939, and lived in Lansing and Holt until moving to Houghton Lake in 2000.

Harla was a 1957 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, and retired from the City of East Lansing Dept. of Public Works.  Following retirement she was associated with the Holt Community News.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends.  She also enjoyed sports as long as it was MSU football or basketball.

She was preceded in death by her a daughter Karen Jean Schmidt and brother Jack Parkhurst.  Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Roger; daughter, Ellen (Ed) Parrott, and son Steve (Kathy) Eriksen; 7 grandchildren, Greg, Keith, Kristen, Derek, Kali, Brent, and A.J.; 2 great-grandchildren, Chase and Natalie; sister, Diana Kramer; sister-in-law, Peggy Parkhurst; brother-in-law, Sigurd (Carol) Eriksen; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Estes-Leadley Holt Delhi Chapel.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Hospice and Home Care, 324 Meadows Dr., Grayling, MI 49738.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Harla your wife and mother. She was a very lovely person. I Have known Harla since we were in the 9th grade. I am so sorry I cannot make the service I am in Florida for the winter. Roger my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Lorraine
