H. Owen Armitage

H. Owen ArmitageAge 88, passed away August 24, 2012. He was born May 8, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harry and Bernice Armitage. His family spent several years in St. Petersburg, FL, before returning to Coral, MI, in 1927.

He graduated from Howard City High School in 1942. Mr. Armitage worked for Ford during WWII at the Willow Run B-24 bomber plant. He graduated from MSU in 1949 with a Business Degree. He worked 33 years as manager in accounting at Oldsmobile, retiring in 1982. After retirement, Mr. Armitage spent summers at his boyhood home in Coral and Lansing, and traveling on senior bus trips. During winters, he returned to Pinellas County, FL, staying in Clearwater. He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church, and the Bretton Woods Lions  Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Bernice Armitage; his wife of 44 years, Shirley; brother, George; and great-grandson, Marshall Jones V. He is survived by his son, Gary of Dimondale, daughter, Debra (Stan) Wolever of Palm Harbor, FL; granddaughter, Amanda (Marshall) Jones of New Port Richey, FL; sisters, Doris Schaeffer of Newaygo and Helen (Robert) Ward of East Lansing; and sister-in-law, Ruth Kempf of Lansing.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Peter N. Robinson of Pilgrim Congregational Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Pilgrim Congregational Church or the Bretton Woods Lions Club in memory of H. Owen Armitage.

I wish we could have spoken one more time. I hope you are at peace and that you are teaching my son the things you had taught me. I love you and miss you dearly.
