Gale Frederick Lott

Gale was an intrepid fighter.  He battled the effects of Guillain-Barré, open-heart surgeries, pancreatic cancer, and Parkinson’s disease with a stubborn determination.  He also used that same determination to fight fires for the city of East Lansing for thirty-five years where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his buddies in the Fire Department.

An authentic Holt guy, he was born at the family farm on Willoughby Road to Herbert and Hattie Lott on July 3, 1932.  Gale graduated from Holt High School in 1951, and there he majored in football, track, and hanging with the gang on the steps of the old Bliss Hardware.  After attending a year of college in California, he entered the Army where he served two years in the Korean Conflict.  He happily returned home to Holt and stayed until his death on December 9, 2013.

The youngest of twelve children, he is survived by three sisters, Ethel Baker, Florence Davison, and Bea Parker. Also surviving him are his loving wife, Roberta; son Tim; daughters, Cathy, Liz, Jennifer; adopted daughter, Phany Sarann; grandchildren, Berdeen and Ellie Clough, and several lifelong friends.

A true sports nut, Gale enjoyed playing anything involving a ball:  football, softball, basketball, racquetball, handball, and bowling.  He also loved traveling, and he and Roberta visited many countries all over the world.  A generous, compassionate man of his word, he will be missed by many.

A memorial service for Gale will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N. Aurelius Rd. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to Holt-Give-A-Kid Projects for their Christmas program, P.O. Box 576, Holt, MI  48842 or to Holt United Methodist Church in Gale’s name.

Gale was a good friend. I loved his teasing and sense of humor.
He was of strong character and kept going despite many physical challenges. He will always be in my heart.

Roberta and Family – I was so sorry to hear of Gale’s passing. Perhaps my daughter, Cathy, put it best – “Mr. Lott was such a nice guy! I have such fond memories of being at their house.” I had planned to attend Gale’s funeral ceremony today, but, unfortunately Old Man Winter had other ideas! Roberta, you know that all of you have my sincere sympathy. Love to all.
